1.0 COURSE DESCRIPTION:

Advanced study of physical, cognitive, social, emotional and moral development spanning the life time. Implications and issues for children and families.

This course tells the complex story of how we develop and become who we are, in an informative and enjoyable manner. The student will see himself/herself as an infant, child, adolescent, young adult, middle aged adult, and an adult in golden years. The students will have a chance to think about important milestones in life-marriage, the birth of a child, divorce, when children leave, the change of a career, etc.

By successful completion of the course the student will:

The goals of this course will be achieved through informative lectures, cooperative group activities, videos, role playing, simulation experiences, guest speakers, creative hands-on projects, questionnaires, reflections on how early years influenced the present self, and how the present self will influence development during the years to come.

LATE WORK POLICY

Work must be turned in on time unless prior arrangemants are made with the instructor. Requests for extensions must be submitted in writing. Grades will be lowered one letter grade for each class session that the assignment is late unless prior arrangements are submitted for approval in writing.

INCOMPLETE POLICY

Incomplete grades are only assigned when circumstances beyond a students control prevent him/her from completing class assignments by the last date of the course. Advance arrangements must be made with the instructor in writing. Do not assume that an incomplete grade will automatically be assigned if coursework is not completed. The earned grade will be assigned if prior written arrangements were made.

COMPUTER TECHNOLOGY COMPONENT

The goal of the Computer Technology Component is to acquaint students with instructional technology and to give them opportunities to experience the benefits of integrating technology in instruction.

Students in class will:

Computers are available in the following locations: Peters Building -- P-105, "D" Building -- D-13, Science Center -- S-101 and in the Library.

SERVICE LEARNING COMPONENT

The goal of the Service Learning Component is to develop and cultivate true partnerships with the community through structured opportunities for students to serve the community and then to reflect critically on their experiences.
