PROGRAMMING - HYPERCARD
HYPERCARD LESSON 1
- Open the Hypercard folder on the hard drive.
- Open the Hypercard program (the hand writing on a stack of paper).
- Go to Go on the menu bar, and drag to Last.
- Click on Level 3, painting.
- Go to File on the menu bar, and drag to New stack.
Be sure there is no X in the copy background box.
- Type PRACTICE in the name box and press return.
- Go to Tools on the menu bar, click the mouse button, hold it down, and drag the tools menu to the side.

Practice using the tools to create a picture.
See what happens when you double click on a tool.

HYPERCARD LESSON 2
- Open Hypercard.
- Go to Last.
- Click on 3 Painting.
- Go to File and select New Stack.
- Type your name for the title.
- Go to File and select Open stack.
- Open Art Ideas.
- Click once on Household to open this card.

- Go to Tools and drag down the tool menu.
- Click on the lasso and go to the large house.
- Click and drag to draw a line all around the house.
When you finish, the house will SHIMMER.
- Go to Edit and drag to Copy.
Next you will learn how to move from one card to another in Hypercard.
Go to Go and drag to Recent.

Notice all the cards you've looked at so far are displayed in miniature.
- Click on the blank card to select it.
- Go to Edit and select Paste.
The house will be pasted onto your new card.
- Go to Go, select Recent, and click on the Art Ideas card to select it.
Look through the idea cards and select some other pictures to paste onto your card.
Remember to use Go Recent to toggle back and forth between cards.
You may also want to use the paint tools to add to your picture.

HYPERCARD LESSON 3
Now it's time to add more cards to your Hypercard stack.
- Go to Edit and select New card.
A blank card will appear.
Go back and forth between Art Ideas and your new card, copying and pasting to create another picture.
Make several cards in this manner.
Be sure to Save a copy on your own disk.
In the next lesson, you will learn how to use buttons to link the cards in your stack.

HYPERCARD LESSON 4
- Open Hypercard.
- Go to Last.
- Click on 4 Authoring.
- Go to File and select Open Stack.
- Open the stack you made last time.
- Go to Go and select Next several times until you have seen all the cards in your stack.
- Check this by going to Go Recent to see if they all are there.
- You are now ready to link the cards in your stack together.
- First you will create buttons with the button tool.
- Pull the Tools menu to the side of your window.
- Go to Objects on the menu bar and select New Button.
- Put the pointer in the center of the new button and drag it to the lower left corner of your card.
- Put the pointer on the corner of the button and drag to make it larger.
- Go to Go Recent and select the second card in your stack.
- Go to Objects and select New Button again.
- Move and resize this button,
Continue the same process until each card in your stack has a button.
You have created buttons. Now you must link cards.
- Go to Go Recent and select the first card in your stack.
- Double click on the new button.
A dialog box appears which looks like this:

Another box appears.

DO NOT click anything at this time!
- Instead, go to Go Recent and select the second card in your stack.
- NOW click on this card.
Repeat the process with each of the cards in your stack.
Now you will want to choose how your buttons will look.
- Double click on the new button.
The dialog box appears again. Click on Icon.
A new dialog box appears. Select any of the icons for your button, then click OK
Repeat this process with the other buttons on the cards in your stack.
When you have finished, go to the first card, select the pointing finger tool, and click on the button. Now you can navigate through your stack using buttons.
